About NextStep

NextStep helps you understand what to do after someone dies. It's built for the moments when you can't remember what day it is, let alone what paperwork comes next.

We won't overwhelm you. We'll show you one step at a time, in plain language, ordered by what actually matters now versus what can wait.

Your answers are private. You can return anytime; we'll keep your place.

Our story

NextStep was founded by a Registered Nurse who, time and again, watched families navigate what she came to call the "bureaucracy of death" with little or no support. Funeral arrangements, death certificates, Social Security, banks, insurance, utilities; the list arrived all at once, usually in the hardest week of someone's life.

She saw kind, capable people sitting in hospital hallways and kitchen tables, holding a stack of paperwork they had never been taught how to handle. There were no clear instructions, no single place to start, and no one whose job it was to walk alongside them. It wasn't right.

NextStep was created to be that steady guide. We help friends, family, loved ones, executors, and anyone else closing a final chapter move through the process one calm step at a time, with plain-language explanations and a clear sense of what comes next.

You don't have to figure this out alone. We'll meet you where you are.
